SOULSCAPE – New single by Jef Kearns Available Now!

November 20, 2017 By Lesley Vander Welle

AVAILABLE NOW!  Jef Kearn’s Soulscape was released November 17, 2017 and is now available on all major streaming and retail platforms at http://smarturl.it/feykn1

Jef Kearns’ new single “Soulscape” comes off the heels of the R&B flautist being featured in XXL (Hip Hop at a Higher Level) Magazine’s top 20 Hip Hop Covers on Instruments, and inclusion of original composition “Jazz Addiction” on Spotify’s official Smooth Jazz Ride playlist.

Recorded and composed live in the studio, Soulscape is a jazz-meets-hip-hop instrumental which could be likened to the darker, more sensual brother of George Benson’s “Breezin’.”

New Release – Just Jane

October 18, 2016 By Lesley Vander Welle

Rare music talents Jef Kearns and Carlos Morgan merge their uncommon abilities for a new rendition of the classic hit Just Jane. Just Jane is a romantic tale about discovering and falling in love with the treasures in a woman considered “just ordinary” by many.

Written by Laura Torno, Earl Torno, and Kurt Hagen, Just Jane has seen various treatments over the years, most notably by Carlos Morgan. Now, Jef Kearns offers a new and refreshing instrumental take on the piece originally recorded by award winning R&B vocalist Carlos Morgan.

“Carlos has an amazing vocal ability,” says Jef, “and I’m honoured to work with him and welcome the magic of his complementary backing on the track.”

“I’m thrilled to be working with Jef on Just Jane,” says Carlos of their first-time collaboration. “He’s a remarkable artist whose talents bring a fresh counterpoint to a beautiful melody.”

The track will be available for streaming and download on October 11, 2016 from iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Tidal, and Spotify.

Jef Kearns is a best selling flautist focused on instrumental R&B and Soul “pop music” with a hint of jazz. Detroit Jazz Magazine said that Jef “makes the flute speak the urban language of soul” with a sound “you normally don’t hear from flautists.” Smooth Jazz Therapy, the go-to site for smooth jazz reviews, described Jef as “dispelling the myth that flute players can’t do urban jazz.” Jef is a constant feature on the Toronto music scene, while his albums have topped international charts from Japan to the UK, Denmark to the US.

Instagram Videos

June 22, 2016 By Lesley Vander Welle

Instagram-v051916Videos are increasingly important to Instagram, which recently hit 400 million monthly active users. Over the past six months, the amount of time users have spent watching Instagram videos has increased by 40%, the company said. Since Instagram revamped its curated “Explore” tab last summer, the company has been serving users more curated videos in collections built around accounts and places, such as musicians, extreme athletes, architecture and beaches. The longer video format could help boost the amount of time users spend in the app and make Instagram become more valuable as a search tool and pulse on live events. Read more from Forbes.com

Here’s a video I created in 2015 to showcase the 10 solo CDs by smoothjazz saxophonist Paul Taylor When Instagram moved to 60 second videos, I edited it carefully to accommodate that length. Review your existing videos – maybe there is something that can be edited or reworked to accommodate the new 60 second video opportunity that Instagram now offers. Note: Paul Taylor now has an eleventh CD, “Countdown” so looks like I will need to do another edit! Please contact me if you need any assistance.
